Message from Mr. Shortall
The curriculum at St James' can be downloaded by clicking on the link below. The document that will open collects each subject taught at St. James' and sets out which units are taught across the school.
This information can also be found on the individual class pages. These can be accessed using the menu above.
We believe that it is very important at St. James' to have a curriculum that is relevant to the interests of our children, that grabs their attention and that is adapted to their needs. For this reason, the curriculum may change over the year. A Geography unit planned for the summer term may be changed or adapted as the needs and interests of the children develop over the year. Whenever a change occurs, the updated document will be posted below. Parents will always be sent a letter at the start of the half term, outlining what subjects are being taught during that period.
As a Voluntary Aided school, St James' follows the new Primary National Curriculum, including the English and Mathematics curricula, which can be found here. All of our curriculum maps have been designed to deliver this curriculum. Information regarding the Church of England's Statement of Entitlement for Religious Education in Church Schools can be found here.
At St James' we deliver daily Phonics sessions in EYFS and Key Stage One which are a combination of Letters and Sounds and Jolly Phonics.
Here is a link to the Letters and Sounds website. This includes the Phases and order in which sounds are taught

Here are links to several websites used in school which include fun and interactive Phonics songs and games.
If you are unfamiliar with the Phonic sounds here are links to videos which model correct pronunciation.
