Our class texts' for Summer 2:
The Wide, Wide Sea and Somebody Swallowed Stanley.
We will be looking at these two texts, as well as other fiction and non-fiction books all to do with our topic on Water.

In Reception our topic this half term is Water. Here is what we will be looking at in Summer 2.
Books: The Wide, Wide Sea by Anna Wilson and Somebody Swallowed Stanley Sarah Roberts.

Physical Development:
Gross Motor Skills
Confidently and safely use a range of large and small apparatus inside, outside, alone and in a group.
Develop the overall body strength, co-ordination, balance and agility needed to engage successfully with future physical education sessions and other physical disciplines including dance, gymnastics, and sports.
Combine different movements with ease and fluency.
Fine Motor Skills
Develop the foundations of a handwriting style which is fast, accurate and efficient.
Accurate letter formation.
Develop their small motor skills so that they can use a range of tools competently, safely and confidently.
Reading:
Language Comprehension: Re-read books to build up their confidence in word reading, their fluency and their understanding and enjoyment.
Word Reading: Read simple phrases and sentences made up of words with known letter-sound correspondences and, where necessary, a few exception words.
Read some letter groups that each represent one sound and say sounds for them.
Read a few common exception words matched to the schools phonic programme.
Phonics (Little Wandle Revised Letters and Sounds):
Phase 4: Long vowel sounds CVCC CCVC CCCVC CCV CCVCC
Phase 4 words ending in: -s /s/, -s /z/, -es
Longer words Root word ending in: -ing, -ed /t/, -ed /id/ /ed/, -ed /d/
Tricky words: Review all taught tricky words. Secure spelling.
Writing:
Spell words by identifying the sounds and then writing the sounds with letters/s.
Form lower-case letters and begin to form capital letters correctly.
Write short sentences with words with known sound-letter correspondences and begin using a capital letter and full stop.
Re-read what they have written to check it makes sense.
Mathematics: (Mastering Number and White Rose Maths)
Begin to generalise about ‘one more than’ and ‘one less than’ numbers within 10.
Continue to identify when sets can be subitised and when counting is necessary.
Develop conceptual subitising skills including when using a rekenrek.
Explore Shape, Space and Measure: Weight, capacity, length and height. Using different and appropriate measuring tools.
Understanding the World:
Water
Recognise some environments that are different from the one in which they live (The Seaside).
Recognise some similarities and differences between life in this country and life in other countries.
Compare and Contrast characters from stories, including figures from the past.
Summer
Explore the Natural World around them (Summer).
Describe what they see, hear and feel whilst outside.
Understand the effect of changing seasons on the natural world around them.
Expressive Arts and Design:

Watch and talk about dance and performance art, expressing their feelings and responses.

Reception homework will be shared with you every Friday via email. Feel free to email photographs of any practical activities you do at home or you are more than welcome to bring them into class as well.
Reading Books will be assigned to your child via our new online E-Books. You will have received a login for your child and a new book will be assigned each Monday by the class teacher. In addition to this each Monday your child will choose a choosing book to take home with them, for you to read together. Please bring in your child's book bag each Monday for this choosing book to be changed.
Also we love to hear about what the children are getting up to at home, please send us photographs and objects from special events, days out and clubs- we'd love to share them with the class!
