Year 1

Welcome to the wonderful world of year 1!

This page will be used to keep you updated about all things Year One. Here are some notices for parents and carers.

  • PE  takes places on Monday and Wednesday. Children can leave their PE kits in school in a named, sealable bag.
  • Reading books will be changed every Friday. Please ensure your child has their sharing books and banded book, plus their reading record. Their eBook will be updated and the previous week's book remains online, so your child will have two decodable books to enjoy each week.
  • Homework will be given out every Friday in the orange homework books and is to be returned by Wednesday.

For any queries, speak to me at school or email:
[email protected]

In English we will be looking at letter writing. Pupils will focus on the book 'It fell from the sky' by Terry Fan. Pupils will write a letter of invitation to invite the other bugs to their own exhibition, imagining their own 'wonder from the sky' (as seen in the book). Pupils will learn about the key features of a letters, as well as aiming to understand the various reasons that you may write a letter. We also aim to have opportunity for pupils to understand how a letter can be posted and may travel (using the postal service). If we have time, we may even go and post a class letter of our own and follow it's journey to the recipient!

In Maths we will be looking at:

-Numbers to 50
-Mass and volume
-Multiplication and division
