Spring 2 in NurseryOur Nursery topic this half term is Spring. We will be looking at two key texts this half term to help with all our areas of learning.
Jasper's Beanstalk by Nick Butterworth and Lulu Loves Flowers by Anna McQuinn. We will also look at the traditional tale Jack and the Beanstalk.
Spring 2 Topics:
Celebrations: Shrove Tuesday (Pancake Day), World Book Day, Mother's Day, Eid al-Fitr, International Language Day and World Maths Day. RE: Lent, Easter and Mother’s Day. Stories - Talking and listening to each other; hearing and discussing stories of all kinds, including religious and secular stories. Communication and Language: Develop speaking & listening skills through stories, songs and rhymes. Introduce imaginary play and new vocabulary. Development of listening skills, responding and developing conversational skills. Develop role-play, turn taking and sharing. To communicate about their feelings and how their actions can affect others. Discuss what it means to be a good friend. Predict what might happen to the growing seed. Discuss observations of the growing seed? What do we notice? Personal, Social and Emotional Development: Children will be responsible for their own plant to look after. Children to talk about their achievements with growing the plant. Learn to talk to adults and peers as they play, both about what they are doing & own experiences at home. Learn to ask for help and initiate play ideas with peers as they continue to develop relationships. Physical Development: Become independent with toileting/coats/snack time. Develop gross and fine motor skills using different equipment and apparatus. Development of letter formation and cutting skills. Literacy: Continue to develop mark making opportunities. To recognise letters in their name, to recognise their name written down and to write their name in the correct direction. Listen to and engage in talk around new stories. Join in with repetitive language in the story and become familiar with new vocabulary. To be able to relate a story to their own life e.g. planting a seed. Numeracy: Numbers 1-5, Number 6, Height & Length, Mass and Capacity. Understanding the World: Spring - To plant seeds and care about growing plants. To begin to understand features of the life cycle of a plant. Talk about what they see, using a wide vocabulary. Begin to understand the need to respect and care for the natural environment and all living things. Customs & beliefs - Easter and Lent. Expressive Arts and Design: Look at the artist Van Gogh's Sunflowers - observational drawings. Also observational drawings of their own plants. Create their own songs, or improvise a song around one they know. Phonics At St James' we deliver daily Phonics sessions in EYFS and Key Stage One based on the phonics programme Little Wandle, in Nursery we teach Phase 1 phonics looking at the seven aspects.
